SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A second horse in Oregon has tested positive for a potentially fatal virus linked to a cutting horse show in Utah.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture said Thursday it had confirmed the equine herpes virus in a horse in Umatilla County that was in close contact with other horses that had attended the Utah show.
Earlier this week, a Clackamas County horse had tested positive for the virus.
State officials say the horses that attended the show and those stabled at the same facilities are quarantined and are being closely monitored. None of the animals show any symptoms of the disease at this time.
Horses that participated in the National Cutting Horse Association’s Western National Championship in Ogden, Utah, from April 30 through May 8 may have been exposed.
