CASARES, Spain (AP) — Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer won their quarterfinal matches at the World Match Play Championship on Saturday.

Top-ranked Lee Westwood’s defeat to Ian Poulter in the last 16 left the door ajar for Donald or Kaymer to take over as No. 1 if either wins the tournament in Andalusia.

Second-ranked Donald reached the semifinals by defeating Masters champion Charl Schwartzel by two holes, after he needed a playoff to beat Johan Edfors in the last 16 earlier Saturday.

Kaymer, the former top-ranked player who has slipped to third, followed up a 3-and-2 victory over Soren Kjeldsen by eliminating local favorite Alvaro Quiros by two in the quarterfinals.
