SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Trapping season is getting under way for gypsy moths and other invasive insects in Oregon.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture says it is placing up to 13,000 brightly colored gypsy moth traps in trees and shrubs around the state and will check those traps over the summer months.

The department is also on the lookout for a variety of unwanted insects, including exotic fruit moths, the Asian longhorned beetle and a stink bug.

Only one gypsy moth was caught last year, the lowest count since the state started trapping the insect in 1979.
