DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — David Pearson is glad for his place in NASCAR history and his upcoming enshrinement in its Hall of Fame. But racing’s “Silver Fox” says he would be willing to wait for his induction if it meant more of the sport’s pioneers could be honored during their lives.

Pearson said that he would’ve loved to watch risk-taking drivers and owners such as 87-year-old Cotton Owens and the late Raymond Parks be honored ahead of him.

Pearson is a three-time NASCAR champion who is among five all-time greats who’ll be inducted into the hall in Charlotte, N.C., on Monday night. The others are champion drivers Bobby Allison, Ned Jarrett and the late Lee Petty, and car owner Bud Moore.
