LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — The Cowlitz County sheriff’s office says a Longview couple has been arrested on suspicion of abusing their five adopted children.

The Daily News reports Jeffrey Allen Trebilcock and Rebecca Lynn Trebilcock were booked into the Cowllitz County Jail Thursday night on suspicion of one count of first-degree criminal mistreatment, four counts of second-degree criminal mistreatment and one count of third-degree assault. The couple has been scheduled for a bail hearing Friday in Cowlitz County Superior Court.

The sheriff’s office says all of the couple’s five adopted children, ages 8 to 13, were malnourished.

Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig says he can’t comment on an apparent motive for the alleged starvation and that information will come out at trial.

Rosenzweig says he doesn’t know of any case where this number of children had been malnourished.
