BEND, Ore. (AP) — A third Oregon horse has been diagnosed with equine herpes virus.
KTVZ-TV in Bend reports that the Deschutes County horse was at the Utah show where the disease arose. It says State Veterinarian Don Hansen reports that the cutter horse has not shown neurological symptoms.
Two other cases reported earlier in the week involved horses that came into close contact with other horses that were at the Ogden show. The deadly disease is contagious among horses but can’t be transmitted to humans.
Dr. Wendy Krebs of Bend told the station no details were available about the horse’s owner.
State officials say 20 Oregon horses attended the show, and all have been quarantined.
