OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Successful Mission drew off in the stretch to win the $75,000 Elkwood Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Hockley by 714 lengths.

Trained by Edward Plesa Jr. and ridden by Chuck Lopez, the 5-year-old gelding ran the mile over a fast track in 1:35 and paid $11, $5.80 and $4.20. The race originally was scheduled for the turf, but was moved due to rains that fell overnight.

Hockley returned $7.40 and $4.20, while Not Abroad was another 712 lengths back in third and returned $6.

Successful Mission has now won 8 of 17 career starts and boosted his earnings to $332,643.
