The Meyer Memorial Trust has announced that its May 2011 awards included a grant of $200,000 and a “program related investment” of $800,000 to Clark County Food Bank to help build and operate its new building.

These monies are part of more than $3.8 million given to 31 nonprofit organizations in Oregon and Clark County by the Meyer Trust in May.

The Clark County Food Bank, long housed in an 8,000-square-foot warehouse in Hazel Dell, mounted a $4.2 million capital campaign in recent years to buy real estate and build a new 22,000-square-foot warehouse and headquarters. This month, it broke ground on a facility in the Cold Creek Industrial Park off Northeast Minnehaha Street.

More than 3 million pounds of food was distributed through county food banks last year, and nearly 85,000 people were fed.

These awards bring the total Meyer Memorial Trust has granted since it began operating in 1982 to nearly $532 million, including over $6.5 million to groups in Clark County.
