TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Tacoma police say a homeowner apparently fired in self-defense when he shot two men he caught breaking into his garage.
Spokesman Mark Fulghum told KIRO-TV the man was defending his property early Monday when he held the men at gunpoint and protecting himself when they both charged at him.
One man was found dead in an alley. The wounded man was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center and is expected to survive.
The News Tribune reports the homeowner and his wife were awakened by noise and barking dogs about 4:40 a.m.
The man grabbed a handgun and went to investigate in the detached garage as his wife called 911.
The man said his home had been burglarized a couple of times in recent weeks.
