OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon City couple who rely on faith healing are facing trial in Clackamas County on criminal mistreatment charges.
The Oregonian reports that Timothy and Rebecca Wyland are members of the Followers of Christ church, an Oregon City congregation that rejects medical care in favor of spiritual treatment.
The charges were filed after their infant daughter, Alayna, suffered an abnormal buildup of blood vessels near her left eye that nearly left her blind in that eye.
The girl is now 18 months old and has improved under court-ordered medical treatment.
If convicted, her parents face a sentence of up to five years in prison. Jury selection was set to begin Tuesday in Clackmas County Circuit Court in Oregon City.
