CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have placed right-hander Matt Garza on the 15-day disabled list with elbow stiffness and promoted outfielder Luis Montanez from Triple-A Iowa.

Garza was scratched from his scheduled start at the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night. The Cubs say he has a right elbow bone contusion.

Randy Wells is expected to come off the DL and start Saturday against Pittsburgh. Wells has been out with a strain in his right forearm.

Garza is 2-4 with a 3.72 ERA in nine starts in his first year with Chicago. He won 15 games with Tampa Bay last season and was acquired in a trade during the offseason.

To make room for Montanez on the 40-man roster, right-hander Brian Schlitter was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday.
