PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon developer already facing state charges involving a former sawmill in the town of Sweet Home has been indicted on federal charges related to the mill.

A federal grand jury last week indicted 67-year-old Dan Desler on nine federal counts of violation of the Clean Air Act involving the cleanup at the former Willamette Industries sawmill.

The federal indictment alleges that from May 2007 through January 2008 Desler failed to ensure that asbestos was properly removed before and during demolition of buildings at the mill site.

Meanwhile, the Democrat-Herald reports a state trial on pollution charges in Linn County Circuit Court set to begin earlier this month for Desler was postponed by prosecutors.

Desler’s attorney said he could not comment pending a hearing on the state trial.
