WNBA honors Katie Couric with Inspiration Award

NEW YORK (AP) — Former CBS News anchor Katie Couric has received the WNBA’s Inspiration Award.

Couric, the first solo female evening news anchor for a major broadcast network, was honored at the league’s sixth annual Inspiring Women Luncheon on Tuesday. WNBA President Laurel Richie praised Couric’s accomplishments and “the way in which she has worked with integrity, humanity and grace.”

Former WNBA star Lisa Leslie was presented the inaugural Pioneer Award for serving as a role model for women on the court and in the community.

Couric, who ended her five-year run hosting the CBS Evening News last Thursday, said she still isn’t sure of her future plans.

Previous Inspiration Award recipients include Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Robin Roberts.
