JBLM ceremony for unit heading to Afghanistan

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) -- Joint Base Lewis-McChord is holding a flag ceremony Thursday for the I (First) Corps Headquarters unit that is preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

The colors casing ceremony symbolizes the movement of the command to a new theater of operation.

The unit has 700 soldiers and is led by Lt. Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti. He'll manage day-to-day operations in Afghanistan, including the withdrawal President Obama has set to begin in July.

The unit returned in March of last year from Iraq.
