SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was knocked out of Wednesday night’s game against Florida following a collision at home plate with Scott Cousins in the 12th inning.

Posey was trying to field Nate Schierholtz’s throw home on a fly ball by the Marlins’ Emilio Bonifacio when he was injured. Cousins, on third, tagged up on the play and lowered his shoulder before barreling into Posey who missed the throw home. Posey lay face down on the dirt as Cousins reached over to check on him.

Giants medical staff rushed out to Posey, who remained down for several moments before being helped off the field. Posey, the reigning NL rookie of the year, appeared to injure his left foot though there was no immediate announcement by the team.
