Tourist arrested in woman’s death at Hawaii resort



HONOLULU (AP) — A 46-year-old tourist from Washington state has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman at a Big Island resort.

Howard Philip Zimmerman of Bellevue, Wash., is being held at a Kona police cellblock on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Susan Brockert, also of Bellevue.

West Hawaii Today reported Wednesday Zimmerman and Brockert were registered together at The Fairmont Orchid at Mauna Lani Resort and appeared to have a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.

Hawaii County police say guests at the Kohala Coast resort reported hearing screams coming from a guest room Monday night.

Security and staff rushed to the room where one employee witnessed a woman being hit on the head with an object

Emergency workers rushed her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead Tuesday.
