3 arrested in death of man found in sleeping bag

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — The Linn County sheriff says three Corvallis men have been arrested in the death of a man found fatally beaten in a sleeping bag off Interstate 5 near Harrisburg, Ore.

Sheriff Tim Mueller said Thursday the men were found working at a farm near Corvallis. They were arrested after questioning by detectives.

The victim was identified through fingerprints as 39-year-old Jose Felipe Hernandez Leiva. He had been dead about two weeks when his body was found May 20. Born in El Salvador, he last lived in Eugene.

The sheriff says the three men knew the victim.

Arrested for investigation of murder were 25-year-old Edgar Hernandez-Mendoza and 30-year-old Jose Juarez. Arrested for investigation of hindering prosecution was 45-year-old Luis Martinez Jimenez.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed an immigration hold on all three.
