TORONTO (AP) — Chicago White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham left Friday night’s game at Toronto after being hit in the face by a throw from the outfield.

Beckham was covering second base on Juan Rivera’s double in the third inning when the throw from center fielder Alex Rios bounced over his outstretched glove and hit him above the left eye. Beckham fell to the ground in obvious pain, and the trainer and manager Ozzie Guillen came running to his side.

Beckham was able to walk off the field, but held his cap over the side of his face, covering the injury from cameras.

Omar Vizquel moved from third base to second and Dallas McPherson replaced Beckham, who came in hitting .232 with four homers and 15 RBIs.
