BRUNSWICK, Ohio (AP) — A former Oregon State linebacker who lost his California high school ring at an airport 18 years ago is having it returned by an Ohio couple who found it under their couch.

Tevita Moala, who also played for Brigham Young, left the 1992 Hawthorn High School ring by a bathroom sink at the Salt Lake City airport.

Gail Basey of Brunswick tells WEWS-TV in Cleveland that she found the ring while cleaning under her couch. She and her husband, Thomas, think it had been in the couch since they bought it new nine years ago from North Carolina.

Thomas Basey found Moala via the Internet. Moala tells WEWS he can now pass the ring down to his son and that, if he met Basey, he’d “give him a big hug and say thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.”
