Datalogic to cut 125 jobs, move work to Vietnam

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A high-tech company says it will move most of the production work remaining in its Eugene operations to Vietnam and lay off 125 people in the next six months.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that’s about a third of Datalogic’s Eugene work force. Operations such as research and development, marketing, finance and logistics are to stay in Eugene.

The company, based in Italy, said it made the move to cut labor and materials costs and to be better placed to do business in China and other Asian nations.

The company designs and builds barcode scanners for food and retail applications mainly. Recently it has branched into areas such as health care.
