GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — David Zabriskie has won the U.S. pro cycling time trial championship for a fifth time.

Zabriskie won Saturday’s title by 31 seconds, completing the 20.7-mile course in Greenville in 40 minutes, 23.5 seconds. He won four titles in a row from 2006 to 2009 before sitting out 2010.

Last year’s winner, Taylor Phinney, finished 50 seconds back in seventh place.

Tom Zirbel was second, Matthew Busche finished third and Brent Bookwalter finished fourth on the course, which took riders over three 6.9-mile laps.

The 112-mile road race U.S. championship is Monday in Greenville. Ben King will try to defend his title against Zabriskie and other American cycling greats like George Hincapie.
