Ore. woman found dead in beauty salon

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) -- Police in the Portland area are investigating the death of a woman found last weekend in her beauty salon.

Police say the body of 54-year-old Debbie Lee Higbee Benton was found Saturday at her small salon in Gladstone. The investigation is being led by police in nearby Milwaukie, who have not released any details other than saying it was "suspicious."

The Oregonian reports that Higbee Benton had been in a long-term relationship with a Gladstone police sergeant who was on duty the night Higbee Benton died.

A Milwaukie police spokeswoman said Tuesday the sergeant was on bereavement leave and additional details were unlikely to be released before Wednesday.

No suspects had been named in the case and it was not clear what led to the discovery of the body.
