TUALATIN, Ore. (AP) — Police in Tualatin just south of Portland are checking on a bear seen roaming in a wooded area near an elementary school.

A Tualatin police spokeswoman told The Oregonian that officers were monitoring the adult black bear Wednesday morning near Tualatin Elementary School.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Massey said Tualatin police have called Oregon State Police wildlife troopers and the Oregon Zoo to help remove the bear.

She said officers were using sirens to isolate the animal and keep it from wandering.
