Letter: Job fair fails to address problem

Congratulations to the 30 individuals who were able to find a job at Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler’s job fair. Unfortunately the 1,670 other attendees were not so lucky.

Clearly, job fairs are not an effective strategy to solve the unemployment problem.

A more sensible approach would be to pass President Obama’s jobs bill. While certainly not perfect, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says the Obama plan will create 1.2 million jobs nationwide. Tens of thousands of those jobs will be right here in Washington state.

If Herrera Beutler is sincere in wanting “to do everything I can to get folks in this region back to work,” then she should sign on to and sponsor President Obama’s jobs bill immediately.
