ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The top Minnesota House Republican says he doesn’t want the Legislature to meet in emergency session this year to vote on a Vikings stadium package.
House Speaker Kurt Zellers says in an email sent Tuesday evening to his 71 GOP colleagues that the stadium should instead be considered in next year’s session, which begins in late January.
The Vikings are four games away from completing their Metrodome lease. They have no plans to sign an extension.
Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton says he wants action soon to prevent other cities from luring the football team away. He doesn’t need the Legislature’s consent to call a special session, but lawmakers determine how long it lasts once they’re back in St. Paul.
A financing plan hasn’t been finalized.
