CARSON, Calif. (AP) — If David Beckham’s five-year American soccer odyssey is about to end, the English superstar is determined to go out on top.

Beckham is in the final days of his best season with the Los Angeles Galaxy, who signed him nearly a half-decade ago to invigorate his sport in North America. His mission has been neither a complete success nor a total failure, but a championship finish would be ideal for the 36-year-old midfielder.

Los Angeles can advance to the Western Conference final with a win or draw against the New York Red Bulls on Thursday night.

Beckham claims he still has no idea where he’ll play next year, but several top European clubs are openly coveting him, with Paris Saint-Germain emerging as the most recent suitor.
