AURORA, Ore. (AP) — A bus fire caused evening rush hour delays on southbound Interstate 5 south of Portland near Aurora.

Oregon State Police say passengers on a Smart transit bus alerted their driver at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday that smoke was coming from the rear of the bus. The driver pulled over and evacuated the passengers as the fire grew. No one was injured but the bus was extensively damaged.

Southbound traffic was restricted while the fire was extinguished. Oregon Transportation Department officials said all southbound lanes reopened by 6:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
