LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Officers hunting a tranquilized Washington state black bear found it walking along railroad tracks midmorning Friday in a Lakewood neighborhood.

A tranquilizer dart is visible on the bear’s backside in video from KIRO-TV.

Earlier Friday, Sgt. Ted Jackson told KOMO Radio the bear got away over backyard fences after it was shot with a tranquilizer dart. It eluded officers for hours even as they tried to track it with a Karelian bear dog.

The bear appears to be a couple of years old and could weigh several hundred pounds. It has been spotted over the past week in the Lakewood-Fort Lewis area.

Police also are in the neighborhood. Nearby Tyee Park Elementary School is on modified lockdown.
