CHICAGO (AP) — A person familiar with the search says the Chicago Cubs will interview Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin for their vacant manager’s job on Friday.

The person was not authorized to comment publicly on the process and spoke on the condition of anonymity. ESPN first reported the story.

Chicago has also been granted permission to interview Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux. The Cubs fired Mike Quade on Wednesday after going 71-91, extending their championship drought to 103 years. They hired Theo Epstein as president of baseball operations along with general manager Jed Hoyer and scouting/player development head Jason McLeod, hoping to snap that streak.

The 60-year-old Mackanin, a Chicago native, has spent the past three seasons as the Phillies’ bench coach.

Mackanin interviewed for the Red Sox job on Monday.
