DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Brendan Smith from Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Detroit announced the move before Thursday night’s game against the Calgary Flames.

The 22-year-old Smith, a first-round draft pick in 2007, has two assists and 20 penalty minutes in seven games with Grand Rapids this season.

Smith was taken with the 27th overall pick by Detroit four years ago. The Red Wings are trying for their first win in six games. They are 0-4-1 since winning their first five games of the season.
