Letter: Boys & Girls Clubs fill vital role

The Columbian

Teen centers and clubs for grades one through five are wonderful places where kids and teens can work on homework, have fun in a safe environment, and have a snack that is included in their membership. The Oct. 12 Columbian online story “New Fruit Valley development hosts teen Boys & Girls Club” describes the new addition to the Vancouver area. Boys & Girls Clubs are a great addition to communities because they allow parents to know their children are going somewhere safe after school. These clubs are also a fun and exciting place to be with great staff that plan exiting activities everyday.

After working at the Boys & Girls Club in Southwest Washington this summer, I have seen how great these clubs are. This is why there is a need for more Boys & Girls Clubs for children in grades one through 12 during the school year as well as the summers. Funding is essential for more clubs.
