SEATTLE (AP) — Saying he’s basing his decision in part on the fact that state government needs more money, Attorney General Rob McKenna says he’ll vote for a measure that would privatize liquor sales in Washington.

The Republican candidate for governor revealed his position on Initiative 1183 to KCTS host Enrique Cerna in an interview to air Friday evening. Rep. Jay Inslee, McKenna’s Democratic opponent, said last month he’ll vote against I-1183 because he worries about the potential public safety impact.

McKenna told KCTS that he had studied the issue and concluded that other states that privatized liquor sales had not seen increased problems.
