Police seek suspect in S. Ore. shooting
Friday, November 4, 2011
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say a suspect in a shooting in Central Point this week gave police the slip by providing false information at a hospital and then leaving before an officer knew he had been involved.
Jackson County investigators tell the Medford Mail Tribune (http://bit.ly/umwWkT ) that 20-year-old Gabriel Perez of Medford is a gang member and sex offender.
They say he was in a car Tuesday that crashed after a police chase. They say one of four occupants died, two were detained, and Perez walked away, getting treatment later in Grants Pass under a false name.
Officers say shots from that car had shattered windows in another vehicle, wounding a man seriously and causing a woman minor injuries. Officers say the victims appear to be innocent bystanders.
