LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Trainer Michael Matz hopes Union Rags takes him back to the place where he had his greatest success five years ago with Barbaro.

Union Rags is the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Saturday. The winner will assume the role of early favorite for next year’s Kentucky Derby.

Matz trained Barbaro, who ran away with the Derby in 2006 before he shattered his leg two weeks later in the Preakness and eventually had to be euthanized in January 2007.

Union Rags is more race-tested than Barbaro was at this point in his career.
