VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed forward Atiba Harris to a contract extension.

The 26-year-old scored a pair of goals in five starts last season before a season-ending knee injury.

“Atiba is an experienced MLS player that does a lot of the little things right,” Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said in a statement. “He is athletic, has a great work rate, holds the ball well, and forces defenders to make mistakes.”

Rennie expects Harris will be ready to participate in January’s preseason training camp.

A native of St. Kitts and Nevis, Harris joined the Whitecaps a year ago after being selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 MLS expansion draft from FC Dallas.
