CCSU ends losing streak, beats Robert Morris 31-24

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Gunnar Jespersen threw for two touchdowns, Brian Fowler rushed for two scores and Central Connecticut State ended a six-game losing streak in a 31-24 win over Robert Morris on Saturday.

Chris Tolbert had 162 yards on 29 carries for the Blue Devils (3-7, 2-5 Northeast Conference), who snapped their longest losing skid since 1992. Jespersen completed threw for 206 yards, and Fowler had 91 yards on 16 carries.

Robert Morris backup quarterback Matt Layman replaced starter Jeff Sinclair, who went out with a knee injury before halftime. Layman threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns for the Colonials (2-7, 2-4).

After a first half that saw both teams trade the lead back and forth, the Blue Devils put the game away in the final 30 minutes. Fowler scored on a 14-yard touchdown run and Juan Duque kicked a 31-yard field goal to give CCSU a 31-17 lead in the fourth quarter.
