NEW YORK (AP) — Sara Hall of the United States and Chris Thompson of Britain won the inaugural Dash to the Finish Line 5K race in Central Park.

Hall finished in 15 minutes, 56 seconds and Thompson clocked 13:53 Saturday over the flat and fast 3.1-mile course that started at the United Nations and ended at the finish line for the New York City Marathon.

Kara Lawson ran the race with Tennessee coach Pat Summitt in mind. The former Lady Vol raised $17,000 through website donations for the New York chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The 59-year-old Summitt announced in August she has early onset dementia.

Lawson, who plays for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, shared Summit stories with friends before the race and has been in touch by text message.

Lawson’s husband, personal trainer Damien Barling, will run the NYC Marathon on Sunday.
