Lafayette beats Colgate 37-24

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Andrew Shoop threw two touchdown passes, including the game-winner in overtime, and ran for three more in Lafayette’s 37-24 win over Colgate on Saturday night.

Shoop, who finished with 262 yards on 21 of 34 passing, capped off an eight-play, 79-yard drive with an 8-yard pass to Kyle Hayes to tie the game 24-24 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Hayes was Shoop’s favorite target, recording seven catches for 124 yards.

Shoop threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mark Ross on the first overtime possession for Lafayette (4-5, 1-2 Pioneer League) for a 31-24 lead.

Colgate (4-6, 0-4) attempted to tie the game on its possession, but Darius Safford intercepted a Gavin McCarney pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown, sealing the Lafayette victory.

McCarney led Colgate’s passing attack, tallying 274 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-34 passing.
