HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Terrence Lefall rushed for 131 yards on a school record 42 carries and combined with Howard’s defense to edge Hampton 10-7 on Saturday.

The Bison (5-5, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) kept Hampton in check all game starting in the first quarter, where they allowed just 50 yards. Hampton finished with just 122 yards of total offense.

Greg McGhee scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter, capping a 16-play, 74-yard drive for the Bison.

Howard’s defense kept the Pirates off the field, as the Bison maintained possession for 41:19, compared to 18:41.

Howard added three more points in the second half as Lanny Kelly’s interception set up a Parker Munoz field goal. Munoz nailed the 23-yarder to put Howard up 10-0 with 7:70 left in the third quarter.

Hampton (5-4, 3-3) responded less than five minutes later when Charles Owens recovered a McGhee fumble in the end zone.
