Prep football: Meadowdale 33, Prairie 7
Saturday, November 5, 2011
Jesse Zalk had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter, but the potent Prairie offense struggled against Meadowdale in a Class 3A state preliminary game.
The Falcons (6-4) led 7-0 with about four minutes left in the first half when Kyler Larsen scored on a 3-yard run. The conversion kick was blocked as Prairie held a 7-6 lead.
But the Falcons couldn’t get much going and punted back to the Mavericks (10-0), who drove downfield to take a 12-7 halftime lead on another 3-yard run by Larsen.
The third quarter was the Kyle Newsom show. The Mavs took the opening kickoff, drove downfield and scored on a 2-yard run by Newsom.
The Falcons fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Meadowdale recovered, setting up a 3-yard TD run by Newsom.
Later in the third quarter, Newsom broke free on a 71-yard TD run.
