SEATTLE (AP) — Political leaders are gathering for a public memorial service to honor the life of state Sen. Scott White.

The event on Sunday afternoon will be held at the University of Washington campus in Seattle. Gov. Chris Gregoire and other top Democrats will eulogize the 41-year-old, who died two weeks ago due to cardiac problems.

White represented the state’s 46th District, covering northern parts of Seattle. Democrats widely pegged him as an up-and-coming star, and he quickly rose to a leadership position during his brief time in the Senate. He was a leading advocate for transit issues in the Legislature.

White is survived by his wife and two children.
