PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Connor Kavanaugh passed for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown to lead Portland State to a 29-20 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday.

Kavanaugh’s 28-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter gave Portland State (6-3, 4-2 Big Sky) a 26-14 lead. Kavanagh finished with 271 yards passing and 89 rushing.

Sacramento State (3-6, 2-5) managed to close the gap to 26-20 on an 8-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jeff Fleming. Portland State sealed the win on a field goal by Zach Brown on the ensuing possession and an interception on the Hornets’ final drive.

Sacramento State gained only 87 yards in the first half, but Portland State’s offense kept the Hornets in the game with two crucial turnovers: an interception touchdown return by Kyle Monson and a fumble by Kavanagh at the Portland State 1 that led to a touchdown.
