WHITE CITY, Ore. (AP) — A Jackson County commissioner calls it a sign of hard times: There have been more complaints over enforcement of a ban on chickens and other farm animals in the White City district than there were a few years ago when the county closed libraries because of budget cutbacks.
Complaints from neighbors about the animals brought enforcement notices in the unincorporated “Urban Residential District,” a checkerboard of older tracts and new subdivisions.
Then, backyard animal raisers protested to the commissioners, saying their chickens and goats help them make ends meet.
The Medford Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/tqxada ) the commissioners are now trying to figure out how to lift or change the ban.
