JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — The Army has identified a Washington state-based soldier killed during a California training exercise as a 31-year-old Portland, Ore., man.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord said Tuesday that Sgt. 1st Class Patrick L. Huntley died Monday of injuries suffered when his Stryker vehicle rolled over during training at the Army’s National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif. Four other soldiers from the Washington base were injured.

Huntley was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

He enlisted in the Army in 1998. He was deployed twice to Iraq. He served most recently as a drill sergeant at Fort Benning, Ga., before arriving in August at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
