OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The husband and stepson of a former state trooper say they are not responsible for her death 13 years ago, disputing the conclusion of an inquest jury.

Ronald and Jonathan Reynolds said at a news conference Thursday that the accusations against them have been wrecking their lives.

An inquest jury last month found the Reynolds men responsible for the 1998 death of Ronda Reynolds. It had initially been ruled a suicide, but the jury concluded it was a homicide.

The coroner issued arrest warrants for the men, but the county prosecutor said there’s not enough evidence to charge them criminally.

An attorney for the Reynolds men called the inquest a “sham” that included hearsay and flawed evidence that would not stand up in a criminal hearing. They say Ronda Reynolds killed herself.
