PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Police Chief Mike Reese are talking about the city’s next steps in dealing with the Occupy Portland camp at a news conference set for 10 a.m. Thursday.

The Oregonian newspaper says (http://bit.ly/sxQFmu ) Portland police have begun drafting “an immediate action plan” to remove protesters from the square if the mayor orders it.

The camp is losing sympathizers because of confrontations with police, unsanitary conditions at the camp, frequent fights there, drug abuse, and other troubles. The protesters say their purpose is peaceful and nonviolent.

Occupy Portland began Oct. 6 with thousands marching through downtown. Several hundred people have been camping in downtown Portland.
