Central Park — Large basalt rocks were put into place in the new Japanese garden on the Clark College campus on Oct. 27.

Garden construction, which began in August, includes rocks carved by craftsmen in Japan.

The garden honors the relationship among the city of Vancouver, Clark College and the people of Japan. The college is providing the land for the garden, the city is overseeing the construction, and donations from Chihiro Kanagawa, CEO of Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. and SEH America, will pay for construction.

The garden will be dedicated in April and, at the request of Kanagawa, will be named the Royce Pollard Japanese Friendship Garden after former Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard.
