EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A 75-year-old Eugene man blamed for a wrong-way fatality on Interstate-105 was arraigned Wednesday in a Lane County Jail courtroom on manslaughter and drunken driving charges.
Police say Eldridge McCoy Maready’s three-quarter-ton pickup truck was going the wrong direction on the freeway Tuesday night near the Willamette River bridge when it collided with a subcompact, killing 53-year-old Gerald Taylor Brooks of Florence.
A police spokesman told The Register Guard (http://bit.ly/sChLnN ) Maready was significantly impaired by alcohol. He was treated for minor injuries and jailed.
