PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Former Congressman David Wu may have resigned from Congress, but his specter has suddenly returned to the Portland-area congressional district he used to represent.
Newly minted Republican nominee Rob Cornilles on Wednesday tied his Democratic rival, state Sen. Suzanne Bonamici, to the former congressman.
Wu resigned in August amid allegations he made an unwanted sexual advance on an 18-year-old woman. At the time, he also battled reports that several staff members resigned en masse because of his bizarre behavior in the 2010 campaign.
Cornilles says Bonamici was part of the Democratic Party establishment that he accuses of enabling Wu and covering up his behavior. Bonamici’s campaign says it’s unfortunate that Cornilles would attack his rival just one day after both candidates won their parties’ nominations.
