Ocean Dungeness crab season opener delayed

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) -- Fishery managers for Oregon, Washington and California have decided to delay the opening of the commercial ocean Dungeness crab season to at least Dec. 15.
The season typically opens Dec. 1 for the area from Point Arena, Calif., to the Canadian border.
The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Department says quality testing showed crabs need more time to fill with meat. Managers meeting Thursday in Newport agree to the delay.
